Dear tom. I'm glad to see this demonstration. many people were secretly taught about the concept and theory of acupuncture for free, but only few continues practicing it due to criticism,my mother is one of the acupuncturists, in the family, later extend to circle of friends, due to public demand patients were voluntarily come to our house to ask for treatment for free, as they knew that we. as i become mature i was interested with it, due to lack of resources… we use modified needles. it works

@blabby102 You quote a single study, in which the authors advocate 'having the needling done by acupuncture naïve clinicians blinded to the hypothesis of the trial' in order to 'improve' acupuncture research. To my mind, this is akin to suggesting a plumber should perform heart surgery in order to see if it really works.

I agree, selection of an adequate placebo is a huge issue in acupuncture research, and I discuss this on my website, where you will also find links to good research.

@TomTheAcupuncturist Thanks for your reply. It is very difficult to set up an adequate test for acupuncture because the selection of an adequate placebo is not an easy thing to do. Only low quality studies without a placebo seem to show any benefits. High quality peer reviews studies show no advantage of acupuncture over a placebo.

@kit2ng219 Not personally, although it is sometimes used in this way, especially in China I believe.

@udkumar11 Thanks! I don't intend to do any online teaching for the foreseeable future though – I'd suggest looking for a good local acupuncture college, as you really need to learn 'hands-on', at least initially. Let me know if you have any specific questions though.

@blabby102 Thanks for your comment. Can I ask why you think acupuncture is quackery? Presumably you're aware of the growing body of scientific evidence that is uncovering the various very real effects and benefits of acupuncture? And am I to take it that in such modern times, you'd rather acupuncture was 'not tolerated', i.e. people should be prevented from making their own informed decisions about their healthcare? I look forward to your elaboration.

  16. blabby102

Amazing that in such modern times, quackery such as this is still tolerated in society.

  19. Alfred Laggner

As an acupuncturist I know how important it is to teach the public about acupuncture. This is a very nice example. Even I use a somewhat different method of acupuncture called Five Element Acupuncture the basic treatment principles are the same. I have my practice in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.
